London, England - A London court ruled on Monday that Julian Assange, the embattled WikiLeaks founder, will not be extradited to the United States. The news prompted cheering and relief from Assange's supporters outside the courthouse.

The US has been hoping to extradite Assange for more than a decade, seeking to try him for espionage related to the publication of classified documents by WikiLeaks. Assange has denied any wrongdoing and has argued that his extradition would be politically motivated.

The judge in the case ruled that Assange would be at high risk of suicide if extradited to the US and that his mental health would be severely impacted by the conditions of confinement he would face there.

Assange's supporters hailed the ruling as a victory for press freedom and a blow to the US government's attempt to prosecute whistleblowers.
